Bihar bans sale, production of chewable tobacco

Bihar government has banned the sale and production of Gutkha containing tobacco or nicotine for one year beginning.

Bihar has now become the third state after Madhya Pradesh and Kerala to ban these products.

All those violating the regulations would be punished with one year imprisonment along with Rs three lakh as fine.

The designated officers and food safety officers have been directed to take necessary action to enforce the order.

According to latest reports of the Global Adult Tobacco Survey, 54 per cent adults are using tobacco in some form or the other in Bihar.
