Operation' Raksha Bhoomi For Indian Defence

A revolutionary step has been taken by the directorate general of defence estates under the ministry of defence in computerising the land records comprising vast tracts of land in the country, admeasuring about 17 lakh acres.

Raksha Bhoomi' software in order to protect the precious defence land and prevent encroachments. There are instances of encroachment on defence lands which have come up to the notice of the defence ministry and added that the software will facilitate in solving these cases.

The minister informed that the entire digitisation of the records of land will be done in two phases at a cost of Rs 2.52 crore.

Out of the total land holdings of 17 lakh acres owned by the defence sector, the record of cantonment land admeasuring two lakh acres and military land of about 15 lakh acres will henceforth be readily available in the defence estates offices, thanks to the efforts of the experts in the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Chennai.
