French Open Tennis 2012

Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi won Mixed Doubles Title of the French Open

Sania Mirza and Mahesh Bhupathi on 7 June 2012 won their second Grand Slam title together and first French Open trophy after beating Santiago Gonzalez of Mexico and Klaudia Jans Ignacik of Poland in the mixed doubles final, in Paris. Playing their third Grand Slam final together, the seventh seeded Indian pair scored a 7-6, 6-1 win over the Polish-Mexican pair in one hour and 13 minutes at the Court Philippe Chatrier.

It is the second career Grand Slam title for Sania, while the 12th Major trophy for Bhupathi, who now has won eight mixed doubles trophies. Sania and Bhupathi had won the 2009 Australia Open and it is their first Grand Slam title since then.

Sania had become the first woman tennis player from India to win a Grand Slam with that Australian Open trophy.

    Nadal claims record-breaking seventh crown

Spain's Rafael Nadal beat Serbia's Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 to win a record seventh French Open title.

He overtook Sweden's Bjorn Borg, who won six Roland Garros titles, and ended Djokovic's hopes of becoming the third man to win four consecutive Grand Slam events.

It was the 26-year-old's 11th Grand Slam title, taking him one behind Roy Emerson, three off Pete Sampras and five away from the record of 16 held by Roger Federer.

Sharapova won Woman’s title

Russia's Maria Sharapova became the 10th woman in tennis history to win all four Grand Slam titles when she defeated Sara Errani of Italy 6-3, 6-2 in the French Open final.

The second seed and new world No.1 led from the start, fixing the 21st seeded Errani with her biggest shots and giving her little chance to employ her own, more considered game.

The French Open title for Sharapova follows her Grand Slam triumphs at Wimbledon in 2004, the U.S. Open in 2006 and the Australian Open in 2008 and it crowns her return from a serious shoulder injury that nearly wrecked her career.
